Dr. Christopher H. Harris, native of Fort Worth, Texas, is a music educator, clinician, conductor, performer, and choral composer. Currently, Harris is the Director of Choral Activities and Assistant Professor of Music at Arkansas Tech University where he conducts the ATU Choral Artists, University Singers, and University Men’s and Women’s Choruses and teaches courses in Choral Methods, Choral Conducting, and Choral Arranging. He received his PhD in Choral Music Education from Florida State University in Tallahassee, FL, his Master’s in Choral Conducting from Ithaca College in Ithaca, NY, and his Bachelor’s in Music Education from Texas Southern University in Houston, TX. Prior to entering graduate school, Harris enjoyed several years of successful public school teaching in Houston, Texas. His choirs received numerous sweepstakes awards at state UIL competition as well as honors to perform with the Bay Area Chorus.
Most recently Harris was honored through the selection of his music for performance by the 2018 Texas All-State Mixed Choir, the 2018 Southwest American Choral Directors Association Men’s Honor Choir, the 2018 Arkansas Intercollegiate Choir, and the 2019 Arkansas All-State Mixed Choir and New York All-State Mixed Choir. Dr. Harris has presented numerous sessions at conferences and professional developments in Texas, Arkansas, Hawaii,and Louisiana and conducted all-region ensembles in Arkansas and New York.
An avid vocal composer, Matthew Recio recently finished his post as Vanguard emerging opera composer with Chicago Opera Theatre. During his residency he developed operas with librettists Royce Vavrek (2021) and Stephanie Fleischmann (2020). The concert presentation of his work with Royce, “The Puppy Episode” was premiered in March of 2021 through the Chicago Opera Theater and is pleased to work on a co-production with Opera Columbus and Oberlin Conservatory for the staged premiere.
With equal passion for instrumental composition, Recio has been represented at the Midwest Composer Symposium, the UNK Music Festival and the Hammer and Nail Dance collaboration. His chamber works received recognition at the IMTA young artist composition competition and the Quartet Nouveau Competition. Recio is a proud alumnus of the IMANI Festival, the Atlantic Music Festival, Valencia International Performing Arts Program, Norfolk Chamber Series and Donald Nally’s Grammy award winning choir, “The Crossing”.
A summa cum laude graduate of and Charles F. Hockett Scholarship winner at Ithaca College (B.M. Composition), Recio is completing his Doctorate in music composition at Indiana University’s Jacobs School of Music as a Jacobs fellowship recipient and associate instructor in aural skills. His principal teachers include Dana Wilson, Claude Baker, Aaron Travers, Don Freund, David Dzubay, Eric Ewazen, P.Q. Phan and Sven-David Sandström.
Sean Linfors is Associate Professor of Choral Music Education at Ithaca College School of Music, Theatre and Dance, and is currently serving as Interim Director of Choral Activities. He holds a Ph.D. in Choral Music Education and a Masters in Choral Conducting from Florida State University, and a Bachelors in Trumpet Performance from the University of Richmond, and is an active conductor, clinician, and educator. At Ithaca, Linfors has taught conducting, choral literature and rehearsal techniques, as well as choral ensembles. As the Artistic Director of the Syracuse Chorale and the Cayuga Vocal Ensemble, he advocates for a diverse and humanistic repertoire. Linfors has conducted opera, musical theater, orchestral, wind ensemble, and choral music at the children's, high school, collegiate, and professional levels. His ensembles have been selected to perform at state and regional conferences, and internationally. In 2013, he was the Guest Conductor for the East Africa Choral Festival in Nairobi, Kenya.
Hana J. Cai is a conductor and music director based in Ithaca, NY. During her time at Indiana University, she was one of three conductors selected to assist with preparing the chorus for a performance of the Penderecki St. Luke Passion where the composer was in attendance. She also served as the associate chorus master for the university premiere of Mason Bates' The (R)evolution of Steve Jpbs and Wagner's Parsifal for the Indiana University Bicentennial. In March 2019 , Hana was the winner of the ACDA Conducting Competition in Kansas City, MO.
In Philadelphia, Cai served as a music director, accompanist, and vocal coach at Temple University. In Bloomington, she served as the music director for The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee with Indiana University Summer Theatre and the assistant music director under Lawrence Yurman for Stardust Road as part of the Indiana University Bicentennial, directed by Susan H. Shulman. Other projects include The Christians, Beauty and the Beast, and Disney's Newsies for Cardinal Stage, Bloomington's professional theater company.
Cai holds a BM in piano performance and a BA in Chinese from the University of Maryland, an MM in conducting from the Eastman School of Music, and a DM in choral conducting from Indiana University. Her dissertation is a diction guide for Mandarin Chinese for singers and conductors. Additionally, she has presented her research on tokenism at the Indiana Choral Directors Association and the ACDA Cantral and North Central Division Conference in Milwaukee, WI.
