Ithaca College Percussion Ensemble:
Percussion is an enigma. How can something that seems so simple in concept (hit drum, make sound) be so complex in both its history and execution? This concert attempts to juxtapose classic pieces of percussion ensemble repertoire (Cowell, Beyer) with lesser-performed works of the 21st-century (Applebaum, Treuting) in an attempt to showcase the breadth and depth of the current percussion ensemble repertoire, spanning just slightly more than a century.
We hope that you enjoy the variety of roles a percussionist has been asked to play, and the variety of sonic and visual environments in which these roles live. We value sound and progress, stasis and variety. The percussionist’s world is that of questions with few answers. We hope you enjoy!
