ITHACA COLLEGE AFRICAN DRUMMING AND DANCE
Dr. Baruch Whitehead, director
Ty Brenners, dance instructor
A traditional dance of the Dagomba people of northern Ghana, Bamaya - meaning "the river or stream is wet" - originated as a ritual to bring rain during times of drought. Today it is performed at festivals and public events, featuring colorful costumes and intricate movements that symbolize gratitude and renewal.
From the Ewe people of Ghana's Volta region, Bo Bo Bo is a lively recreational dance performed during festivals and social gatherings. Characterized by energetic footwork, singing, and drumming, the dance invites the entire community to celebrate unity, joy and cultural pride.
